Standing up for young people, allowing the launch of promising new filmmakers and paying tribute to the masters of British cinema, such is our Festival’s motto. This aim has granted us with ever-growing credit from both professionals and members of the public, and it is therefore becoming easier and easier for us to gain access to quality films. Filmmakers know that in Dinard, films are desired, supported and belong to a story, an atmosphere.
Once again, the Festival will be the place where films look out onto our world.
The works that were viewed and selected, more than ever question british society and its contradictions – integration, racism, illegal immigrants, islam. Without necessarily providing answers, filmmakers show their political and aesthetic commitment in response to an uncertain future. The 17th British Film Festival is to be a snapshot of a whole country’s concerns.
